Haesung Optics Acquires 20% of GeoSoft... "Plans to Secure Over 50% Stake"

[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo Hyun-seok] Haesung Optics is officially entering the mobility and metaverse business.

Haesung Optics announced on the 19th that it has additionally acquired a 20% stake in Geosoft, a specialized company in geographic information system (GIS) and location-based service (LBS) solutions.

Haesung Optics acquired a 10% stake in Geosoft last December. The company plans to acquire an additional 20% of existing shares this time and proceed with a paid-in capital increase. By securing more than 50% of the shares, Geosoft will be incorporated as a consolidated subsidiary.

Geosoft owns proprietary GIS and LBS solutions. It holds domestic map data and road network data and possesses core technology that can provide various location-based information services based on this data. Currently, it is building an integrated map that connects indoor and outdoor spaces?essential in the autonomous driving era?by combining outdoor electronic maps and indoor spatial information. Based on this, it is developing a Digital Twin platform that realizes spaces identical to the real world.

Through this additional share acquisition, Haesung Optics plans to accelerate projects such as electric ship control and charging platform construction. The company is developing a vehicle control system based on MaaS (Mobility as a Service) through its newly established GIS and LBS business divisions. By integrating its accumulated camera module technology with GIS/LBS-based technology, it plans to implement a mobility integrated control service covering land, sea, air, and rail.

Additionally, by utilizing 3D LiDAR technology, it will automatically generate indoor spatial maps and develop an Indoor Positioning System (IPS) that measures location information indoors where GPS reception is impossible, providing services based on an integrated digital map that combines indoor and outdoor spaces. In the future, it plans to enter the metaverse market by combining digital twin and XR technologies based on this.

A Haesung Optics official said, “This additional acquisition of existing shares in Geosoft will further accelerate the expansion of our GIS and LBS business areas,” adding, “Securing this stake will be a stepping stone for our full-scale entry into the mobility and metaverse industries, which are developing as core growth businesses of the future.”
