[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] As a large-scale logistics center by Coupang, a leading domestic e-commerce company, is being promoted in the Sin-gwanri area of Hamyang-gun, Gyeongnam, Coupang executives visited the Hamyang County Office on the 18th.
At the meeting with County Governor Seo Chun-soo, CEO Park Dae-joon, Executive Director Jang Young-chul, Senior Manager Chae Soo-gon of the Policy Cooperation Team, and Senior Manager Choi Yi-gyu of the Logistics Development Team attended together.
CEO Park Dae-joon expressed his early groundbreaking intention, saying, "We will actively strive to contribute to the local community, including revitalizing the local economy of Hamyang-gun through the construction and operation of the logistics center."
In response, Governor Seo Chun-soo replied, "The Coupang logistics center is a key project of the county to revitalize the local economy, which has been depressed due to COVID-19, and to create jobs. We will spare no administrative support to ensure the project is completed as soon as possible."
Hamyang-gun has been making efforts for the smooth groundbreaking of the Hamyang logistics center through continuous meetings recently, following Governor Seo’s visit to Coupang headquarters last November to meet CEO Park Dae-joon.
Coupang plans to invest 72 billion KRW on a site of approximately 184,175㎡ in the Sin-gwanri area of Hamyang-eup to build one logistics center with a total floor area of about 75,710㎡.
They plan to introduce state-of-the-art facilities, including logistics software and artificial intelligence (AI) developed in-house, as well as advanced logistics equipment. The Hamyang advanced logistics center to be established is expected to serve as a hub for logistics and distribution in the Yeongnam and Honam regions, located centrally among logistics centers being built in Gwangju, Daegu, and Gimcheon.
Currently, the Hamyang Coupang logistics center project is undergoing various administrative procedures for groundbreaking, such as designation of district unit plans and strategic environmental impact assessments.
