[Boseong=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] Jeollanam-do Boseong-gun announced on the 18th that its representative festival, the "23rd Seopyeonje Boseong Sori Festival," won the Grand Prize at the Korea Content Awards hosted by the Korea Festival Contents Association and sponsored by the Seoul Metropolitan Government and the Korea Tourism Organization.
The Korea Festival Contents Awards is a prestigious award selected through an objective and rigorous evaluation by a panel of judges, marking its 10th anniversary this year.
The Seopyeonje Boseong Sori Festival, which has annually attracted skilled sorikkun (traditional Korean vocalists) from across the country, was at risk of being completely canceled last year due to COVID-19 but was held as a no-audience competition instead.
To prevent the spread of COVID-19, a specialized quarantine company managed the competition venue throughout the event, and participants including contestants and judges were only allowed to participate after testing negative for COVID-19 within 48 hours prior to attendance.
Last year's 23rd Seopyeonje Boseong Sori Festival was recognized as a model case of a safe festival with no COVID-19 cases related to the event.
A county official stated, "Boseong, as the hometown of Seopyeonje Boseong Sori, has a special responsibility and mission," adding, "We will continue to strive to maintain the festival's reputation as a safe and fair representative event in the pansori and gosu (drumming) fields."
Meanwhile, the 24th Seopyeonje Boseong Sori Festival is scheduled to be held in the second half of this year.
