[Asia Economy Reporter Ki-min Lee] The Hyundai Motor Chung Mong-Koo Foundation announced on the 18th that it will operate the educational program "OnDream School" for elementary school students in rural farming and fishing villages online for two weeks until the 28th, together with a university student volunteer group.
Started by the Chung Mong-Koo Foundation in 2012, "OnDream School" is a creative convergence and creative arts education program designed to address the educational gap for elementary school students in rural farming and fishing villages. Over the past 10 years, a total of 45,000 elementary students have participated in OnDream School, which operates during both the school term and vacation periods.
The vacation program is conducted by university student education volunteers who participate as teachers and run creative educational programs they have directly planned, receiving consulting from current teachers and others.
The 19th OnDream School university student volunteer group consists of 120 members in 30 teams, matched with 30 classes from rural farming and fishing village elementary schools, conducting classes online. Although the program is held online to prevent the spread of COVID-19, it plans to encourage student participation in a safe yet novel way by utilizing metaverse platforms, educational kits, and more.
The online classes mainly consist of creative convergence programs combining science, IT, and cultural arts fields. To attract student participation and interest in the online classes, teams are organized to use the metaverse as a communication channel, conduct programs within the metaverse, or even use the metaverse itself as the subject of education, providing an opportunity to become familiar with the emerging metaverse.
The Chung Mong-Koo Foundation stated, "OnDream School was originally focused on overcoming the geographical limitations of rural farming and fishing villages to address educational gaps, but with the ongoing COVID-19 situation leading to a shortage of care personnel, educational disparity has become an even greater educational issue. We will support university students' creative educational programs to connect with elementary students in rural farming and fishing villages so they can have a lively and meaningful winter vacation."
