[Asia Economy Reporter Seungjin Lee] Namyang Dairy Products has been leading efforts for children with rare diseases for 37 years.
Since 1985, Namyang Dairy Products has been developing and producing various special infant formulas for children with rare diseases for 37 years. Special infant formulas require enormous research and facility investment compared to their marketability, making product development, production, and sales challenging. However, based on over 50 years of infant formula manufacturing expertise and research capabilities, Namyang Dairy Products has continuously invested in and produced special infant formulas for children with rare diseases.
Namyang Dairy Products’ special infant formula “XO Allegy,” first introduced in 1985, was developed for babies sensitive to lactose and milk proteins. This product can also help children suffering from galactosemia. Galactosemia is a hereditary carbohydrate metabolism disorder caused by the impaired ability to convert galactose, a sugar found in breast milk and regular milk, into glucose. Since January 2021, Namyang Dairy Products has signed a supply contract with the Population Health and Welfare Association and has been supplying XO Allegy formula at prices lower than factory prices, contributing to the health improvement of children with congenital metabolic disorders such as galactosemia.
Namyang Dairy Products’ representative special infant formula “Ketonia” was developed in 2002 to help children with epilepsy. “Ketonia” was created to conveniently implement the “ketogenic diet therapy,” which can stop epileptic seizures and enable long-term treatment at home. It was the world’s first liquid-form ketogenic diet product. Since 2010, Namyang Dairy Products has signed an agreement with Severance Children’s Hospital to provide Ketonia free of charge to children in financial need, continuing this social contribution activity for 12 years.
In addition to special infant formulas for children with rare diseases, Namyang Dairy Products also produces special formulas for low birth weight infants, premature babies, and children with loose stools. “XO Early Baby” is a product for low birth weight infants weighing less than 2.5 kg and premature babies born before 37 weeks of gestation. The product has been supplied to hospitals and postpartum care centers, its main users, at the same price as 15 years ago. Additionally, “XO Doctor” was introduced for babies experiencing temporary loose stools due to bacteria and viruses, helping children grow healthier.
A Namyang Dairy Products official stated, “We will continue to make ongoing efforts in research and development for children suffering from rare diseases,” and added, “We will fulfill our social responsibility so that children can grow up healthier and brighter.”
