[Asia Economy Reporter Heo Midam] Recently, the transcript of the '7-hour phone call' of Kim Geon-hee, wife of Yoon Seok-yeol, the presidential candidate of the People Power Party, was released, and the number of members in Kim 's online fan community has explosively increased within a day, drawing attention.
The number of members in the 'Kim Geon-hee Lady Fan Cafe' (Geonsarang), opened on Naver Cafe, surpassed 3,280 as of 8:30 PM on the 17th. This cafe, created on the 19th of last month, had only about 200 members registered until the 15th, but new registrations poured in as of the afternoon of the 16th, when Kim's transcript was released.
The fan cafe introduces itself as "a cafe to support and cheer for Lady Kim Geon-hee. We plan to continue activities unchanged even after President Yoon Seok-yeol's election."
Members who joined the fan cafe sent messages of support to Kim, such as "Watching the broadcast, there were refreshing parts and many positive reactions, which is good," "I express infinite support for the candid remarks," "It feels so refreshing. Fighting, Lady Kim Geon-hee," and "I will support you until the end."
On the afternoon of the 16th, the MBC program "Straight," which covers the '7-hour phone call' content of Kim Geon-hee, spouse of Yoon Seok-yeol, the People Power Party's presidential candidate, is being broadcast on the electronic billboard at the MBC building in Sangam-dong, Seoul. Earlier, the day before, MBC's current affairs program 'Straight' reported part of the transcript of Kim's conversation with a reporter from the YouTube channel 'Seoul's Voice.'
In the call, Kim expressed opinions on the investigation of former Minister of Justice Cho Kuk, the Me Too incidents in politics, and the Julie allegations.
In particular, Kim said about Yoon becoming the presidential candidate, "Did (my husband) ever dream or imagine becoming the Prosecutor General and presidential candidate?" and "This was nurtured by the Moon Jae-in administration, not by conservatives. Conservatives want to keep it for themselves."
Meanwhile, Yoon attended the launch ceremony of the Buddhist Leaders Forum held at a hotel in Jung-gu, Seoul, and apologized for the broadcast of his wife Kim's '7-hour phone call' transcript, saying, "I am sorry for causing concern to many people."
He added, "As her husband, I should have taken better care," and said, "There were inappropriate aspects in the process of private conversation content being broadcast, but I also don't quite understand why such a long private conversation was held."
