From Preemptive Strikes to Massive Retaliation
"Peace Is the Result of Overwhelming Power"
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jun-yi] Yoon Seok-yeol, the presidential candidate of the People Power Party, promised on the 17th to restore and strengthen the military missile '3-axis system' in response to North Korea's ballistic missile launch. The intention is to enhance the overall military response capability, from preemptive strike ability to defense systems, to prepare against North Korea's threats.
On the same day, Yoon said on Facebook, "North Korea launched a missile for the fourth time since the New Year this morning," adding, "North Korea's repeated missile launches are intimidation against the security of the Republic of Korea and provocations threatening the lives and property of our people. Nevertheless, the current government cannot even bring itself to say the word 'provocation.'"
He stated, "We will take all necessary measures to protect our people from North Korea's nuclear and missile threats," and "Above all, we will restore and strengthen the '3-axis system,' which has become nominal and ineffective, at an early stage."
Yoon promised to secure the 'Kill-Chain' (preemptive strike capability). He explained, "We will equip surveillance and reconnaissance capabilities that can monitor all areas of North Korea," and "Our military will also be equipped with ultra-precision and hypersonic missiles."
He also pledged to strengthen the 'Korean Air and Missile Defense system (KAMD).' The plan includes enhancing defense posture against North Korea's hypersonic missiles, including laser weapons, and operationalizing a 'Korean Iron Dome' for the defense of the Seoul metropolitan area.
Furthermore, he promised to strengthen the 'Massive Punishment and Retaliation (KMPR)' capability. This system targets the command center in response to a preemptive attack by North Korea.
Yoon emphasized, "Peace is the result of overwhelming power," and "Only a strong deterrent against North Korea can guarantee peace in the Republic of Korea."
