[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Hye-seon] Pulmuone announced on the 17th that it has obtained the environmental label certification from the Korea Environmental Industry & Technology Institute under the Ministry of Environment for its eco-friendly salad container made of Bio-PET material, which was developed and introduced domestically for the first time.
The environmental label certification is a nationally accredited certification system that selects eco-friendly products that reduce energy and resource consumption and minimize pollutant emissions throughout the entire process of production, distribution, use, and disposal. It requires displaying an eco-friendly logo (environmental label) and a brief explanation. Through this certification mark, consumers are provided with eco-friendly information, enabling them to easily choose environmentally friendly products.
Pulmuone received high evaluations for the carbon emission reduction effect and recyclability of the Bio-PET salad container in this certification assessment, leading to the acquisition of the environmental label certification.
'Bio-PET' is a packaging material that enhances eco-friendliness by applying some of its raw materials extracted from sugarcane. While general PET is made of 100% petroleum-derived raw materials, Bio-PET contains 30% sugarcane-derived extracts, reducing carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions by about 20% throughout manufacturing, distribution, and incineration processes. Another advantage is that it is 100% recyclable.
Pulmuone applies the eco-friendly Bio-PET material to the containers of its popular healthy lunchbox salad products favored by office workers, showcasing them at Pulmuone’s smart unmanned restaurant 'Chulchul Kitchen' and corporate catering sites operated by 'Pulmuone Food & Culture.' With the acquisition of this environmental label certification, Pulmuone plans to attach the Ministry of Environment’s 'Eco-friendly' mark on newly produced Bio-PET salad product packages to communicate eco-friendly packaging to consumers.
