Balancing East-West Cultural Disparities! ... Busan City Breaks Ground on 'Seobusan Video Media Center' Construction

Balancing East-West Cultural Disparities! ... Busan City Breaks Ground on 'Seobusan Video Media Center' Construction Perspective view of Gangseo Open Culture Center.

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Du-yeol] Busan City will begin construction on the 19th of the ‘Seobusan Video Media Center,’ which will serve as a hub for media culture in the western Busan area.

The Seobusan Video Media Center is a regional media infrastructure facility that supports citizens in properly understanding media, directly producing and sharing content, or broadcasting.

It provides citizens with educational programs from professional operating organizations such as planning, filming, and editing, and supports video studio facilities and digital camera equipment rental.

It aims to open in 2023, with a total project cost of 5 billion KRW.

The center will be established within the urban regeneration-linked cultural facility ‘Gangseo Open Culture Center,’ covering approximately 1,400㎡.

Main facilities include media education rooms, production rooms, a movie theater, studios, a media library, and club rooms.

With the start of construction, the city plans to prepare the Seobusan Video Media Center operation ordinance and officially begin preparations for opening by inviting and selecting private consignment operators.

Park Hyung-jun, Mayor of Busan, said, “The film, video, and media infrastructure, which has been concentrated in eastern Busan, will also be expanded to the western Busan area, resolving the cultural imbalance between eastern and western Busan.”

Mayor Park added, “We expect that an environment where anyone can directly produce and utilize content will be created, leading to the popularization of video media.”

The ‘Gangseo Open Culture Center,’ where the Seobusan Video Media Center will be built, is also planned to include various complex cultural spaces such as the Gangseo Cultural Center, a multipurpose hall, exhibition halls, and program rooms.
