Sustainable Growth Message Planned... UAE Crown Prince Summit Canceled Due to Local Circumstances
[Asia Economy reporters Ryu Jeong-min and Lee Ji-eun] President Moon Jae-in, who is visiting the United Arab Emirates (UAE), will attend the "Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week Opening Ceremony and Zayed Award Ceremony" on the 17th (local time) and deliver a keynote speech on carbon neutrality and clean energy.
President Moon plans to convey messages related to sustainable growth, including innovation in a low-carbon-centered industrial structure. Additionally, President Moon will visit Sheikh Khalifa Specialty Hospital to encourage Korean staff and medical personnel. This hospital has been operated under consignment by Seoul National University Hospital since 2014.
Meanwhile, President Moon was scheduled to hold a summit with Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan on the same day, but it was canceled due to circumstances on the UAE side.
It was reported that Crown Prince Mohammed was unable to attend the Zayed Award Ceremony. The Blue House explained that the close friendship between President Moon and Crown Prince Mohammed remains strong and that the cancellation was not related to bilateral relations.
This means it was canceled due to unavoidable local circumstances. A senior Blue House official said, "The UAE side politely requested understanding."
There were speculations that it might be related to COVID-19 issues, but the UAE side did not disclose the exact reason and described it as an "unforeseen and urgent matter of state."
