Collaborative Robots and Autonomous Mobile Robots
AR, VR, and 5G Technology Infrastructure Also Established
[Asia Economy Reporter Minyoung Cha] KT is supplying advanced manufacturing robots along with augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR), and 5G technology infrastructure to the site of Korea’s first advanced robot 5G demonstration environment.
KT announced on the 16th that it has signed a contract with the Korea Institute for Robot Industry Advancement (KIRIA) for the “5G Network Advanced Manufacturing Demonstration Environment Testbed Construction Project.”
This project is the first phase of the 47.5 billion KRW “5G-based Advanced Manufacturing Robot Demonstration Infrastructure Construction Project” conducted by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and the Korea Institute for Advancement of Technology, with KIRIA as the lead organization. It aims to provide an advanced manufacturing robot demonstration environment by building demonstration infrastructure and virtual environments that simulate real manufacturing settings.
KT will supply a variety of advanced manufacturing robots to KIRIA’s Demonstration Support Center in Daegu, establish process lines and control/management systems, create process verification auxiliary equipment systems using hologram and VR technologies, and set up 5G communication and control infrastructure. The advanced manufacturing robots include collaborative robots, autonomous mobile robots, mobile manipulators, and industrial robots.
Lee Sang-ho, head of KT’s AI Robot Business Group, said, “This project allows KT to demonstrate its capabilities in the robotics sector, which is one of the core businesses of DigiCo KT,” and added, “KT will continue to actively participate in projects that can revitalize the domestic robot ecosystem.”
Ahn Chang-yong, head of KT Daegu-Gyeongbuk Regional Headquarters, stated, “We have high expectations as the first testbed in Korea is being established in Daegu, the site of the National Robot Test Field Innovation Project,” and said, “KT plans to explore various ways to contribute to the development of the domestic robot industry in cooperation with KIRIA.”
