Yoon Sang-hyun: "Let's Include Ahn Cheol-soo in the TV Debate... Embracing and Walking Together Will Inspire the People"

[Asia Economy Reporter Kwon Seoyoung] Yoon Sang-hyun, a member of the People Power Party, argued that Ahn Cheol-soo, the presidential candidate of the People Party, should participate in the TV debate.

On the 15th, Yoon stated this in a post on his Facebook. He said, "Lee Jae-myung, the candidate of the Democratic Party of Korea, and Yoon Seok-youl, the candidate of the People Power Party, have agreed to hold a one-on-one TV debate before the Lunar New Year holiday," adding, "Recently, Ahn, whose support rate has risen to 17% in the multi-candidate race, is protesting."

Yoon said, "It is inappropriate to exclude candidates who exceed the 15% threshold for 100% election cost reimbursement from the debate," and added, "Since this is not a legally mandated TV debate, it is even more necessary to show respect for the will of the 17% of the people." He continued, "If the People Power Party, which has consistently worked to win the hearts of the moderate voters for regime change, ignores Ahn, who has steadfastly upheld the value of moderate politics, it will be difficult to demonstrate that it is a capable ruling party."

Yoon also criticized, "We are running in the presidential election to achieve regime change, not to show that we are the main opposition party standing shoulder to shoulder with the ruling party." He pointed out, "Public sentiment for regime change is 55%, but Yoon's support rate is said to be 38%. Our immediate task should be to fully reflect the overwhelming public will for regime change."

He emphasized, "The main reason the public has become most disgusted with the current administration and desires regime change is the government's severe division tactics," and added, "We need to start by not dividing with Ahn, understanding the people's feelings." Furthermore, he concluded his post by saying, "When the People Power Party shows not competition but embraces and accompanies Ahn, it will move the people," and "We will become the People Power Party that fully embodies the public will for regime change without any gaps."
