Cheong Wa Dae "Government Public Service Discipline Establishment, Intensive Inspection Conducted" (Comprehensive)

Cheong Anti-Corruption Secretary Hosts 'Public Service Discipline Council' Meeting... Prime Minister's Office and Board of Audit Share Roles

[Asia Economy Reporter Ryu Jeong-min] The Blue House has decided to conduct intensive inspections to establish public service discipline in the second half of the government’s term.

On the 14th, the Blue House announced that it held a 'Public Service Discipline Council' meeting chaired by the Anti-Corruption Secretary of the Civil Affairs Office. At the meeting, the Blue House explained that the Civil Affairs Office (Public Service Inspection Team), the Prime Minister’s Office (Public Service Management Office), and the Board of Audit and Inspection (Special Investigation Bureau) will share roles and conduct intensive inspections.

The plan is to focus on checking the work negligence, lax management and supervision, and complacency in service discipline of not only central government ministries and local government officials but also employees of public institutions. Additionally, intensive inspections will be conducted on various public service misconducts such as corruption in permits and licenses, acceptance of money and entertainment, and abuse of power including gapjil.

The Blue House pointed out, "Despite the serious situation where all ministries including the Blue House must fulfill their duty to protect the people during a time when the public’s livelihood burden is increasing due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic, there is a concern that some public officials may show negligence and complacency in their duties toward the end of their term, leading to a relaxation of discipline."

Meanwhile, the Office for Government Policy Coordination plans to hold a meeting of central government auditors on the 18th to discuss measures for establishing public service discipline and managing service during the end of the term.
