The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced on the 13th that a total of 4,247 vehicles across 12 models imported and sold by Audi Volkswagen Korea, Porsche Korea, BMW Korea, and Mercedes-Benz Korea have been found to have manufacturing defects and will undergo voluntary corrective actions (recalls).
Among them, 2,355 units of 2 models including the Tiguan 2.0 TDI imported and sold by Audi Volkswagen Korea were found to have a possibility of thermal damage (perforation) to the intake manifold caused by engine control unit software errors and coolant leakage due to cracks in the EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) cooler.
These vehicles have been undergoing free repairs at official service centers since the 10th.
For 1,799 units of 4 models including the Panamera from Porsche Korea, a safety standard non-compliance was discovered due to an error in the instrument cluster software, which caused warning lights such as the tire pressure warning device to not function properly when the ignition switch was in the engine operation position.
The importer will first carry out voluntary corrective actions and plans to impose fines later considering the correction rate. Vehicles can receive free repairs at official service centers starting from the 17th.
For 72 units of 2 models including the BMW i4 M50 from BMW Korea, it was confirmed that some high-voltage battery shock mitigation pads were not installed, which could cause fire due to damage to the high-voltage battery in the event of a side collision.
Free repairs will be available at official service centers starting from the 14th.
For 19 units of 2 models including the GLE 350 e 4MATIC Coupe from Mercedes-Benz Korea, a safety standard non-compliance was identified due to insufficient corrosion resistance of the fuel tank pressure sensor fixing parts, which could cause fuel leakage in the event of a collision. Fines will be imposed later considering the correction rate.
For 2 units of 2 models including the E 220 d 4MATIC, it was confirmed that engine crankshaft durability issues could cause the engine to stall, leading to a recall. Free repairs have been underway since the 7th.
Regarding this defect correction, each manufacturer will notify vehicle owners of the correction methods via mail and mobile text messages. If vehicle owners have repaired the defect at their own expense before the correction, they can apply for compensation for the repair costs from the manufacturer.
