[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Heeyoon] Woongjin ThinkBig announced on the 12th that the number of members of its AI learning platform 'SmartAll' has surpassed 200,000.
SmartAll was launched in November 2019 as an AI learning platform for all subjects targeting elementary school students. It surpassed 100,000 members within 14 months of launch, and then expanded its lineup with 'SmartAll Middle School,' which introduced lectures from the top 3 academies in Daechi-dong, and 'SmartAll Kids,' which strengthened Korean language and creative classes, reaching 200,000 members in just over two years.
Woongjin ThinkBig cited the changed educational environment due to COVID-19 and differentiated edutech technologies from competitors as the background for SmartAll's growth. They diagnosed that with the disappearance of resistance to edutech due to non-face-to-face classes and the emergence of the metaverse caused by COVID-19, education using smart pads has become a necessity rather than an option.
They added that when converting the 200,000 members into annual sales, it amounts to 230 billion KRW based on a single brand, making it number one in the market in terms of member count and sales scale among all-subject edutech services.
Woongjin ThinkBig successfully launched Korea's first commercial edutech service by releasing 'Book Club' in 2014 and achieving 100,000 members within one year. In 2018, they made an equity investment in the U.S. Silicon Valley edutech company Kidaptive, building their own AI education technology and securing 31 edutech patents.
A Woongjin ThinkBig official explained, "We verified a 10.5 percentage point improvement in learning efficiency through SCI-level papers," adding, "We concentrated the accumulated technology and experience to launch SmartAll, a comprehensive all-subject learning platform."
Lee Jaejin, CEO of Woongjin ThinkBig, said, "SmartAll is the culmination of edutech technology that Woongjin ThinkBig has invested in for over 10 years since 2013," and added, "Since AI technology can improve grades, you should carefully consider whether the program is verified, whether users can immerse themselves and engage in self-directed learning, and whether it is easy to study through globally verified user experience (UX) before choosing a program."
