[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Suwon City, Gyeonggi Province, has enrolled in the '2022 Suwon Citizen Safety Insurance,' which provides insurance payments to Suwon citizens (including registered foreigners and overseas Koreans residing in Suwon) who suffer unexpected disasters or safety accidents. The coverage period is until December 31.
Since 2019, Suwon City has annually subscribed to citizen safety insurance that allows all residents registered in Suwon to receive insurance benefits free of charge without separate insurance enrollment.
Since 2020, the city has subscribed to the integrated insurance product 'Suwon Citizen Safety Insurance,' which combines citizen safety insurance and 'Suwon Citizen Bicycle Insurance' that covers compensation for bicycle accidents.
This year's coverage items include ▲death and permanent disability caused by explosion, fire (lightning), collapse, and landslide ▲injury death and permanent disability while using public transportation ▲injury death and permanent disability due to robbery ▲death caused by natural disasters (including heatstroke, sunstroke, and cold waves) ▲injury medical expenses ▲property damage compensation to third parties related to bicycle operation ▲death and permanent disability from bicycle injury accidents, diagnosis consolation money, and hospitalization consolation money. Death coverage is excluded for those under 15 years old.
The coverage amounts are 10 million KRW for death caused by explosion, fire (lightning), collapse, landslide, and injury death while using public transportation, with a maximum of 10 million KRW for permanent disability. Injury medical expenses are up to 1 million KRW per person. Additionally, death from bicycle injury accidents is covered up to 5 million KRW, and permanent disability up to 5 million KRW.
Insurance payments amounted to 1.16 billion KRW for 862 people in 2020 and 760 million KRW for 675 people in 2021.
Insurance claims can be made within three years from the date of the accident. After contacting the Suwon Citizen Safety Insurance Compensation Center and following their guidance to prepare the documents, insurance payments can be claimed. Coverage can overlap with personal insurance.
When claiming medical expenses, an accident receipt confirmation issued by the Suwon City department in charge must be attached. The accident receipt confirmation can be obtained from the Citizen Safety Division at City Hall or the Life Safety Division at the district office with jurisdiction over the address.
