[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Dae-yeol] Kim Gyu-young, CEO of Hyosung Co., Ltd., has been promoted to vice chairman. According to the regular executive promotion announcement made by Hyosung on the 10th, along with the newly appointed Vice Chairman Kim, Son Hyun-sik, CEO of Hyosung TNS, was promoted to president. A total of 39 people were promoted, including the two.
The company emphasized that this personnel move strictly followed the principle of meritocracy. Despite the unstable economic environment caused by the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic, the company explained that they significantly promoted personnel who contributed to growth by achieving record-high performance and those who could realize customer value management.
Vice Chairman Kim joined Dongyang Nylon (the predecessor of Hyosung) as a new employee in 1972 and has led Hyosung's growth for 50 years, serving as head of the Eonyang plant, Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of the textile division, president of China operations, and CTO of the tire reinforcement materials division. He is a representative technical professional manager who led Hyosung’s leap to global No. 1 in its core businesses, spandex and tire cords, including participating in the first domestic project to develop spandex independently. Since the transition to a holding company system in 2018, he has been managing the group stably as the head of the holding company.
Newly appointed President Son is a professional manager who led the globalization of the financial automation machine (ATM) business in the U.S., Russia, and other countries. Since first joining Dongyang Nylon in 1977, he has served as head of the Hyosung TNS Gumi plant and general manager of the financial business. He is recognized for laying the foundation for sustainable growth through various new businesses such as fintech.
