According to NextShark in the U.S. on the 6th (local time), on the 3rd, a woman approached Ken Mac, who visited a grocery store on Nuns Island, and asked, "Are you Chinese?"
Mac, who immigrated to Canada 20 years ago, replied, "Yes." Then the woman suddenly brought up the coronavirus and became angry.
According to a video Mac recorded on his phone at the time, the woman shouted, "Damn it, it's been 21 months. The infectious disease has become a pandemic. This is all because of you Chinese people," while hurling insults.
When the police arrived at the scene and tried to take her away, she said, "My family has the best lawyer in Montreal."
Mac posted the video on his Facebook, saying, "This pandemic has caused chaos in every aspect of our lives," and "It is unacceptable to blame a specific minority group."
Mac also added the hashtag 'StopAsianHate' to the video.
He added, "We all endured lockdowns, curfews, and hardships in Quebec together," and "Until we need to support each other, we should not blame innocent people."
Val?rie Plante, mayor of Montreal, who saw this, tweeted, "Her racist remarks are shocking and unacceptable," and wrote, "Anti-Asian racism has no place in Montreal, and this type of attack should never be overlooked."
Benoit Charette, Quebec's minister in charge of eliminating racial discrimination, tweeted, "It is sad, shocking, and deplorable."
