[Asia Economy Reporter Kum Bo-ryeong] Yoon Seok-yeol, the presidential candidate of the People Power Party, has promised to actively participate in debates.

On the 5th, Yoon stated on Facebook, "In a democratic society, it is natural to participate in debates to earn the people's choice," and added, "I will actively engage in debates."

Yoon said, "With only two months left until the presidential election, the public is greatly concerned about the candidates. Many people have expressed difficulty in making their choice," and added, "As a candidate, I also feel a strong sense of responsibility."

He continued, "As a public figure, the three official debates are far from enough to verify the path I have taken so far, as well as the positions and pledges I have presented to the people as a presidential candidate," emphasizing, "I promise the people that through debates, I will prove my qualifications as a presidential candidate and thoroughly explain policies and alternatives for a new Republic of Korea."

Earlier that day, during a press conference, when asked about debates, Yoon said, "Regarding various suspicions related to the opposing candidate (Lee Jae-myung, the Democratic Party presidential candidate), including Daejang-dong, as well as policies and decisions as a public figure, and pledges announced during the election campaign, I believe that three official debates are insufficient for public verification," and added, "To ensure effective debates, I have instructed the campaign staff to begin discussions on debates beyond the official ones."
