Big Data-AI Platform iTalkTalk Strengthens Learning Support Further
Park Jong-hoon, Superintendent of Gyeongnam Office of Education, is answering a reporter's question at the New Year's press conference held on the 5th.
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Seryeong] Park Jong-hoon, Superintendent of Gyeongnam Office of Education, held a New Year's press conference on the 5th at the auditorium of the provincial education office.
Superintendent Park first expressed gratitude to parents and faculty members who worked hard on children's education and care despite COVID-19 last year, and said that in the new year, based on the achievements of the great transformation of Gyeongnam education in 2021, he will open a new horizon for future education.
Since his first inauguration in 2018, he said he has been striving to lay the foundation for future education that leads the rapidly changing society by strengthening responsible education that enhances the social responsibility of education, innovative education that continuously changes schools and classrooms.
He revealed a vision for Gyeongnam's future education, saying that 2022 will be a year to showcase a new level of Gyeongnam education.
This year, Gyeongnam education plans to further strengthen AI learning support through the ‘Big Data-AI Platform iTalkTalk’ distributed to all schools in the province last year.
The number of learning questions provided will increase from 30,000 to 300,000, and related educational content will also expand from 15,000 to 30,000.
A high school credit system management support platform will also be established and is scheduled for pilot operation in September, connecting 197 high schools in Gyeongnam as if they were one school, enabling course registration and credit acquisition.
One smart device per student will be distributed to create a learning environment free from time and place constraints, and learning data will be systematically accumulated and analyzed to provide customized education.
Blended classes linking online and offline, as well as general classes, assignments, and individual learning, will utilize this platform, accumulating all student learning activities such as records, voice, images, and videos as data.
The accumulated learning data will be converted into feedback materials for customized education through AI analysis and provided to students, parents, and teachers.
To realize student-customized education, from March, the number of students per first-grade elementary school class will be reduced from 27 to 23.
The provincial education office expects that starting within the immediately possible scope with its own capabilities will require expanding 125 classes, adding 155 teachers, and investing 7.8 billion KRW in budget. For schools lacking classrooms, modular prefabricated classrooms are also being considered.
The operating hours of after-school care classrooms will be extended from the existing 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., and an additional hub integrated care center ‘Neulbom’ will open.
The Gyeongnam Office of Education will establish a school support integrated guidance platform linking school administrative teams and school integrated support centers of education support offices.
This platform will provide one-stop support for school tasks while transferring common and repetitive environmental hygiene tasks such as water quality inspection, septic tank cleaning, and routine school disinfection to education support offices, reducing school burdens and improving work efficiency.
Superintendent Park expressed his determination to invest 28 billion KRW in the school space innovation project promoted since 2019 to newly design 154 school spaces and expand the Happy District Project to 18 cities and counties so that every place where children step becomes a learning space.
The Future Education Theme Park is scheduled to be completed in December this year, and the design competition and full-scale content development of the Gyeongnam Career Education Center will be promoted.
Beyond simple job experiences, it plans to support optimal career design by analyzing students' aptitudes, interests, career activity histories, and growth paths through big data and AI.
In preparation for the full implementation of the high school credit system in 2025, it will build a management support platform and designate 80% of general high schools as research and leading schools for the high school credit system to create conditions for transitioning to an operational system.
It will also proactively explore the direction of future college entrance systems and operate environmental education special zones for strengthening ecological transition education in 11 locations including Jinju, Gimhae, Sancheong, and Hapcheon.
Superintendent Park said, “Our education office is the only one that owns an independent browser and learning platform and systematically accumulates learning data,” adding, “Analyzing students' educational activity data and supporting learning with AI will also be the first nationwide.”
He also expressed his intention to run for a third term, saying, “I want to demonstrate leadership once again to create education where students are happy and trusted by parents and residents, and to open future education for a new era.”
Superintendent Park concluded the conference by saying, “I will lead Gyeongnam education with the vigorous energy of the tiger and the energy of the sun rising from the East Sea.”
