2 Million-Seat Popular Music Venue 'Seoul Arena' to Break Ground in May, Changing Dobong-gu's Future

[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] The Year of the Black Tiger has dawned.

First, I would like to thank everyone who has shown unwavering interest and support for Dobong-gu over the past year.

Looking back, last year was a difficult time for everyone due to the unprecedented COVID-19 pandemic. I extend my deepest condolences to those who suffered significant economic losses, especially due to social distancing and repeated business restrictions. I also express my gratitude to the small business owners who endured inconveniences and diligently followed various quarantine guidelines.

In the new year, the 20,000-seat popular music venue ‘Seoul Arena,’ which will change the future of Dobong-gu, is scheduled to begin construction in May, and construction on the Changdong Private Station will resume in the first half of the year. These long-awaited projects that Dobong-gu has been pursuing for a long time will take concrete shape. We will do our best to ensure that the various projects planned for this year proceed smoothly.

This year marks the first year of the implementation of the new Local Autonomy Act. I have served as the chairman of the Local Autonomy and Decentralization Council, working to expand autonomy and decentralization in the Republic of Korea. I will continue to strive to lead Dobong-gu into the era of Autonomy and Decentralization 2.0.

Thanks to the support and encouragement of many people, I have served as district mayor three times, and now I have six months left of my 12-year term. The past 12 years of relentless challenges for ‘a city for the people, a greater Dobong’ have been incredibly happy times for me. I sincerely thank the residents of Dobong-gu for entrusting me with the role of district mayor three times despite my shortcomings. I will do my best during the remaining term as well.

In the new year, I hope COVID-19 will end soon and everyone can return to their daily lives. I also hope that the presidential and local elections in March and June this year will be an opportunity to open a better Republic of Korea and a better society.

Happy New Year. Thank you.
