Exhibition of Over 100 Taekwon V Figures from Jan 7 to Feb 6... A Glimpse into the History of Korean Animation through Taekwon V's Evolution and Lineage... Gallery at Gyeongchun Line Forest Trail in Hwarangdae Railroad Park Offers a Healing Experience in Daily Life
[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] Nowon-gu (Mayor Oh Seung-rok) will hold an exhibition titled 'Taekwon V and Our Cartoon Story' at the Gyeongchun Line Forest Trail Gallery inside Hwarangdae Railroad Park starting from the 7th.
'Robot Taekwon V' is a nostalgic animated film for the 70s and 80s generation. After its release in 1976, it gained tremendous popularity, attracting about 180,000 viewers, and subsequently influenced works such as 'Iron Man 007,' 'Ddol-i General,' 'Ddol-i and Zeta Robot,' and 'Planet Robot Thunder A,' leading the development of Korean cartoons.
The exhibition is planned to showcase the evolution of Taekwon V across its series at a glance by displaying about 100 exquisite figure arts of the robot and characters. Additionally, it aims to explore the history of Korean works that continue the legacy of Taekwon V.
The district expects this exhibition to be an opportunity for middle-aged and older adults to reminisce about their childhood memories and for children to newly experience old animated films.
The exhibition will continue until February 6 at the Gyeongchun Line Forest Trail Gallery inside Hwarangdae Railroad Park (29-1 Gongneung-dong, Nowon-gu). Visitors can view it for free without prior reservation by visiting the gallery from 2 PM to 8 PM on weekdays and from 12 PM to 8 PM on weekends. The gallery is closed on Mondays and public holidays.
According to COVID-19 prevention guidelines, entry is allowed only after presenting a vaccination certificate and a negative PCR test result. Detailed information can be found on the Nowon Cultural Foundation website.
Meanwhile, the Gyeongchun Line Forest Trail Gallery, which opened in May 2021, has been loved by residents as a hub for culture and arts in Nowon. In 2021, it held 18 exhibitions of various sizes to bring art closer to residents' daily lives, and despite visitor restrictions due to COVID-19, about 33,000 visitors came.
Previously, the 'Asian Masks Exhibition' held in June 2021 was a unique exhibition gathering about 600 Asian masks in one place, operating docent programs that received great responses from residents. In August, the 'Nam June Paik Print Exhibition' displayed hidden print works by Nam June Paik, familiar to the public through video art.
Oh Seung-rok, Mayor of Nowon-gu, said, “I hope this exhibition will provide fun for children, memories for adults, and serve as a time to reduce the generation gap. In the new year, we will continue to hold exhibitions on various themes at the Gyeongchun Line Forest Trail Gallery to support residents' cultural life.”
