Namdo Market Sales Soar After 4 Years... Exceeding 54 Billion Won This Year

[Muan=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Jeonnam Province announced on the 31st that the annual sales of the online shopping mall Namdo Jangteo have exceeded 54 billion KRW.

This is the highest sales record since its opening in 2004, achieving a 100-fold growth in sales over four years.

Namdo Jangteo's sales were 540 million KRW in 2018, 6.38 billion KRW in 2019, and 32.6 billion KRW in 2020.

This year, as of the 28th, sales reached 54.1 billion KRW, exceeding last year's sales by 66%. The sales growth trend is expected to continue.

The top 10 popular products on Namdo Jangteo are rice, pears, sweet potatoes, tomatoes, beef, pork, abalone, kimchi, Hangwa (traditional Korean sweets), and health juices.

The most preferred agricultural products by consumers are rice, pears, sweet potatoes, apples, tomatoes, and onions.

Among livestock products, beef, pork ribs, and pork were popular, while among seafood, abalone, eel, clams, and octopus attracted attention. Processed foods such as kimchi, Hangwa, health juices, and fruit chips sold well.

By region, customers from the metropolitan area accounted for 31%, and non-metropolitan areas accounted for 69% of purchases.

By city and province, purchases were made nationwide in the order of Jeonnam 36%, Gyeonggi 15%, Seoul 13%, and Gwangju 10%.

In particular, the increase in sales was attributed to diversifying the number of participating companies and products and continuously expanding them.

As of December, the number of participating companies was 1,650, and the number of products was 25,462, with online members exceeding 331,000, a 13% increase compared to 294,000 last year.

Along with this, the introduction of a subscription economy business that regularly delivers agricultural products, the planning of salted cabbage kimchi events, and new projects such as experience activity packages for vulnerable groups contributed to aggressive marketing efforts.

Namdo Jangteo also expanded sales through free detailed page creation and live commerce for participating companies.

Especially, Jeonnam Province operated Namdo Jangteo this year as "Namdo Jangteo that sells anything." Beyond agricultural, livestock, and seafood products, it started selling industrial goods and rural experience tourism products, promoting online sales channels for farmers, fishermen, small business owners, and food companies.

Additionally, improving product quality through measures such as the one-strike-out system increased consumer recognition, which was also cited as a key to expanding sales.

As a result, Namdo Jangteo won four brand awards in the comprehensive agricultural, livestock, and seafood shopping mall category, including the "2021 Consumer-Selected Brand of the Year Award" and the "2021 Consumer-Selected Best Brand Award." At the National Agricultural Products Quality Management Service's "2021 Excellent Agricultural Product Management Case Competition," it proudly won the gold prize in the online distribution category, surpassing large corporations.

A Jeonnam Province official said, "To repay the great support given to Namdo Jangteo, we are promoting a 50 billion KRW breakthrough gratitude event with excellent member reward points and discounts of up to 40%," adding, "We will make Namdo Jangteo a new model that benefits producers, consumers, farmers, fishermen, small business owners, and food companies alike."
