Wanju-gun's 'Gyeongcheon Reservoir Sansuin National Ecological Exploration Trail Project' Selected as the Only New Project in Jeonbuk
[Wanju=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Kim Han-ho] Ahn Ho-young, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea (Wanju, Jinan, Muju, Jangsu), has paved the way for the creation of a new national ecological trail around Gyeongcheon Reservoir, a pending project in Wanju County.
According to Ahn Ho-young’s office on the 30th, among the four projects proposed from Jeonbuk for the ‘2022 National Ecological Trail Creation Project,’ the Ministry of Environment selected the ‘Wanju-gun Gyeongcheon Reservoir Sansuin (山水人) National Ecological Trail Project’ as the only new project.
Accordingly, Wanju County is expected to receive 125 million KRW in national funding next year.
This inclusion of the new project is evaluated as a result of Ahn’s strong advocacy for the ecological value and tourism activation of the Gyeongcheon Reservoir area, after receiving Wanju County’s proposal in mid-March this year to create an ecological trail around Hwasan-myeon and Gyeongcheon-myeon near Gyeongcheon Reservoir, and repeatedly reporting to officials at the Ministry of Environment.
Ahn stated, “The ecological status of the Gyeongcheon Reservoir area is rated 1st and 2nd grade, with about 120,000㎡ of ecological wetlands preserved, making it highly valuable as an eco-tourism resource,” emphasizing the necessity of establishing a national ecological trail.
He particularly highlighted the potential for linked development with nearby ecological tourism sites such as the Gyeongcheon Singgeuraengi Ecoville, as well as the preservation of excellent historical and cultural resources like National Treasure No. 316, Gyeongcheon Hwaamsa Geungnakjeon, and Jeonbuk Provincial Monument No. 119, Doejae Catholic Church Site, using strong determination and logical persuasion to target central government agencies.
Regarding this, Ahn said, “With the selection of the Gyeongcheon Reservoir National Ecological Trail as a new project, an investment of 250 million KRW from national and local funds will be made next year alone,” adding, “Now that the path for phased investment has been opened, I will strive to secure national funding without delay so that the project can be completed early.”
Meanwhile, the Gyeongcheon Reservoir trail creation project is a phased investment of 2.9 billion KRW from national and local funds to activate the area as an ecological and healing tourist destination with beautiful mountains and water, ecological resources such as wetlands, and cultural resources including history and religion, by installing ecological trails, observatories, and various convenience facilities.
