[Asia Economy, Reporter Park Soyeon] Beauty Bakery, which is pursuing a blockchain platform as a new business alongside its beauty brand operations, is also accelerating its entry into the metaverse sector.
On December 30, Beauty Bakery announced that it had filed trademark applications with the Korean Intellectual Property Office on December 27 for 'DNA Avatar', 'Medicverse', 'Healthverse', as well as the Korean terms 'Medicverse' and 'Healthverse'.
'Healthverse' is a new term coined by Beauty Bakery, combining 'Health' and 'Metaverse'.
The company expressed its ambition to go beyond the simple meaning of the metaverse as a "virtual space for play and entertainment" and to create a "virtual healthcare space that protects human health."
A Beauty Bakery representative stated, "We plan to offer a service where users can register their own avatars within the Healthverse and link their personal medical records," adding, "In particular, we aim to introduce personalized DNA avatars using Minisatellites DNA typing technology."
Minisatellites DNA typing technology utilizes commonly used PCR devices, rather than expensive analytical equipment. This technology can be applied not only for DNA identification but also for encrypting virtual assets.
Beauty Bakery is actively expanding its metaverse-bio convergence business. Last month, the company signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with MedicBioNK, a company specializing in immuno-oncology drug research and development.
Together with MedicBioNK, Beauty Bakery plans to integrate blockchain platforms, virtual assets, NFTs (non-fungible tokens), and the metaverse with bio and medical technologies.
A company representative said, "As the COVID-19 pandemic continues, the demand for contactless services has surged, increasing the need for virtual and augmented reality adoption in the healthcare sector," and added, "Starting with these trademark applications, we will fully launch our metaverse-bio convergence business and create a new virtual medical space that takes responsibility for people's health in the future."
Meanwhile, MedicBioNK recently signed a technology transfer agreement for DNA typing with the Dong-A University Industry-Academic Cooperation Foundation. Through this, the company plans to integrate DNA fingerprint recognition within the metaverse and enter new bio-metaverse businesses.
