Intromedic-Cyworld Z "Cyworld Comeback Countdown... Pre-Open Event"

[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunseok Yoo] The domestic native social network service (SNS) Cyworld is entering the full comeback countdown for January next year.

Intromedic announced on the 29th that it will hold a pre-comeback event for Cyworld, which is scheduled for official opening in the new year. As part of efforts to expedite Cyworld’s opening, which has been delayed due to extended app review, the company plans to allow users to experience the new Cyworld service through the pre-event.

Starting January 4 next year, Cyworld will launch the “Log in and view 3 photos” service. Additionally, an “ID recovery service” will be provided for members who cannot verify their identity via KakaoPay. The company plans to gradually increase member traffic through various opening events, responding to traffic growth while upgrading servers and systems.

A Cyworld Z representative explained, “The app review is being handled in real time, but since this is a new app and the review includes the massive past database (DB) of 32 million members, the schedule has been delayed. We are making company-wide efforts for a prompt opening and have prepared this event to express our apologies to members waiting for Cyworld’s reopening.”

Since February, Cyworld Z has focused on restoring and recovering the DB of 32 million members through the “Cyworld Rebooting Project.” Over 4 billion KRW has been invested solely in restoring 17 billion photos and 150 million videos, totaling 2 petabytes (PB) of data, a first attempt in Korea. The restoration was successfully completed with the technology of FXGear, Korea’s top CG software company.

They also rebooted SKT IDC servers and completed tasks including ▲identifying, recovering, and backing up faulty servers and storage within the data center ▲analyzing legacy DB and source code ▲DB recovery and migration ▲data file restoration ▲cloud migration.

Cyworld Z plans to launch the SNS Cyworld and the metaverse space “Cyworld Hancom Town” through the official opening of the Cyworld app as soon as the app review is passed.

A company official said, “All pre-opening preparations for Cyworld have been successfully completed, and the app review was applied for on the 8th. Currently, only approvals from Google and Apple remain. The Cyworld photo album, containing 17 billion photos and 150 million videos, has been uploaded to Kakao Enterprise’s object storage and is awaiting opening.”

The “Log in and view 3 photos” and “ID recovery service” starting January 4 will actively support ID recovery for 8 million members who have difficulty due to KakaoPay real-name verification issues. Additionally, for 18 million members who visited after January 1, 2015, but have difficulty logging in or viewing photos, Cyworld’s call center (CS) staff will be significantly expanded to provide real-time support.

Meanwhile, Intromedic, through a capital increase participation last November, along with one other individual, has become the largest shareholder of Cyworld Z and is strengthening management rights. On January 3, professional management personnel recommended by Intromedic are scheduled to join Cyworld Z’s board of directors, further contributing to Cyworld’s official opening.
