K-Global Education Leader ... Silla University Receives 'Institutional Merit Award' for Government-Invited Foreign Scholarship Students Silla University.


[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters, Trainee Reporter Hwang Du-yeol] Silla University received the ‘Institutional Merit Award’ at the ‘2021 Government-Inivited Foreign Student (GKS, Global Korea Scholarship) Year-End Night Awards Ceremony’ hosted by the National Institute for International Education on the 22nd.


The GKS program invites outstanding talents from around the world and supports their study abroad expenses such as tuition and living costs, as well as degree completion at domestic universities (graduate schools), aiming to build an international network and foster global talents.


The National Institute for International Education holds an annual awards ceremony to establish a cooperative system with related organizations of the Government-Inivited Foreign Student program and to share excellent cases.


Silla University was selected as the Institutional Merit Award recipient among 24 universities nationwide operating Korean language training programs and received a plaque and encouragement prize.


Mr. Figuera Siyana from Venezuela, a Government-Inivited Foreign Student at Silla University’s Department of Convergence Mechanical Engineering, received the Director Award of the National Institute for International Education and a scholarship.


Silla University, which has participated as an operating institution for 14 years since 2008, currently engages in international exchanges with 228 universities and institutions in 30 countries overseas. There are foreign students from 37 countries enrolled at Silla University.


Silla University manages foreign students through a dedicated care team composed of staff from the International Exchange Team, providing academic management, Korean language and culture education, accompaniment to hospital visits, support for purchasing daily necessities, psychological counseling, and career guidance to ensure a comfortable university life in Korea.


Kim Su-dong, head of the International Exchange Team, said, “We will continue to strive to activate K-Global education and enhance the academic capabilities of foreign students.”


Silla University operates global competency enhancement projects such as cooperation in international education with the National Institute for International Education, the Government-Inivited Foreign Student program, Korean Language Proficiency Test (TOPIK) administration, overseas dispatch of faculty, student exchanges, and recruitment and support of foreign students.
