Focused Development of Future Mobility Including Autonomous Vehicles for a "Leading Economic Transition"

Next year, the Korean New Deal will be actively promoted to proactively respond to megatrends such as the 4th Industrial Revolution, post-COVID-19, demographic structure, and climate change. In particular, there are plans to focus on fostering future mobility such as autonomous vehicles and urban air mobility.

On the 27th, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced the "2022 Major Work Promotion Plan" containing these details.

The Ministry will support the transition to a leading economy in various ways, including fostering future mobility such as autonomous vehicles and urban air mobility, and establishing a digital management system in the fields of smart cities and social overhead capital (SOC).

With the domestic launch of Level 3 (conditional automated driving) autonomous vehicles in the second half of next year, preparations will be made for the Level 4 (highly automated driving) era with no driver intervention by establishing a next-generation intelligent transportation system (C-ITS) management system and starting demonstration in pilot operation zones.

Institutional arrangements and prototype production for the commercialization of UAM (urban air mobility) by 2025 will also be promoted.

Additional special deregulated zones exempt from drone flight regulations will be recruited (in September), and drone flight standards to activate drone operations will be prepared in the second half of next year.

Innovative services will be demonstrated and operated in Sejong and Busan, the national pilot smart cities, and in April, 35 cities will be selected to promote the smart city project for existing cities, supporting the introduction of smart infrastructure.

The transition to a digital economy will also be accelerated through digital twins and core SOC digitalization.

Based on the recently announced "Land, Infrastructure and Transport Carbon Neutrality Roadmap," the foundation for realizing carbon neutrality in areas such as cities, buildings, and transportation will be strengthened.

To expand electric and hydrogen vehicles, the number of electric chargers on highways will be increased from the current 780 to 1,100 next year, and hydrogen chargers will be increased from 17 to 43 next year.

Additionally, to revitalize public transportation, the regions using the Altteul Transportation Card will be expanded from 137 local governments this year to 157 next year.

The mandatory target for zero-energy buildings to improve building performance will be expanded by December next year, and the activation of public and private green remodeling will be promoted. In the second half of next year, the construction of a "carbon emission space map" will be reviewed, and a promotion plan for creating carbon-neutral cities will also be prepared.
