Seoul City "Conveniently Retrieve Lost Items from Public Transportation During Year-End and New Year"

[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] The Seoul Metropolitan Government announced on the 24th that it provides lost item information through the ‘Integrated Public Transportation Lost and Found Center’ for the convenience of citizens, collecting lost item information from buses, taxis, and other public transportation in one place for easy searching, thereby enhancing the convenience for citizens using public transportation.

Since 2008, Seoul has contributed to improving transportation services by consolidating scattered lost item information desks into an integrated center. In 2021, 1,406 lost item cases were registered in the system. The locations of loss were recorded as buses 62.2% (874 cases) and taxis 37.8% (532 cases). Regarding types of lost items, mobile phones accounted for the highest at 31.3% (440 cases), followed by wallets at 17.7% (249 cases) and bags at 9.6% (135 cases).

The usage method is to search for ‘Integrated Public Transportation Lost and Found Center’ on the Seoul city website or portal sites. You can check the list of items found by passengers on public transportation, as well as receive information on the location where the item was found and contact details of the responsible agency.

In addition to the internet, inquiries can also be made by phone. By contacting the 120 Dasan Call Center, you can obtain information about the registration status of lost items and guidance numbers, which can be used as a reference. Especially when making an inquiry, remembering the time and place the item was lost, route number, bus stop, or subway station where you got off will make it much easier to find the item.

Furthermore, Seoul is making various efforts with public transportation operating agencies to resolve inconveniences related to lost items. For subways, lost and found centers operate at major subway stations such as City Hall Station, Chungmuro Station, Wangsimni Station, Taereung Entrance Station, and Sports Complex Station. Buses and taxis also safely handle registration and storage of lost items at each association’s customer centers.

Meanwhile, if you used a card when boarding public transportation, it will be even more helpful in finding your belongings. Taxis can verify key information such as the ride number through the card number, and in the case of subways, the exit time can help track the vehicle you boarded. Since lost item collection and registration are carried out immediately after subway operation ends, remembering the train you boarded, the car number, and the exit time will be especially helpful.

Baek Ho, Director of Urban Transportation at Seoul Metropolitan Government, said, “Since public transportation is connected to citizens’ daily lives and mobility, we will strive to provide various services to ensure convenience for users.”
