Professor Eom Tae-wan of Gyeongnam National University Selected Among Top 50 Academic and Research Achievements by the Ministry of Education Professor Eom Taewan, Department of Social Welfare, Gyeongnam National University.

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Sang-hyun] Gyeongnam National University announced on the 23rd that Professor Eom Tae-wan of the Department of Social Welfare was recently selected for the Ministry of Education's 'Top 50 Academic and Research Support Project Achievements' and received the Minister of Education Award.

The Ministry of Education received 138 submissions through recommendations and open calls from 24,276 academic and research support project outcomes announced in 2020, and after comprehensive evaluation, finally selected the top 50 outstanding achievements in the fields of humanities, social sciences, Korean studies, and science and engineering.

Professor Eom was awarded the Minister of Education Award after being finally selected for the top 50 outstanding achievements with his 2020 publication, "Answering Mental Health with Social Justice and Human Rights: Together with People Whose Lives Are Painful," which was the outcome of a project selected by the National Research Foundation of Korea in 2018.

This book proposes a new recovery paradigm of 'social justice' and 'human rights' at the socio-structural level as an alternative to social Darwinism related to mental health.

The selected outstanding achievements will be compiled into a casebook, distributed to research institutions such as universities nationwide, and posted on the National Research Foundation of Korea's online performance exhibition hall.

Since 2020, Professor Eom has been conducting the research project "Habitus of Patients with Schizophrenia," selected by the National Research Foundation of Korea, and this year, he has actively continued academic research activities by completing three short-term research projects related to mental disorders and mental health.
