Wellbiotech Establishes 'PDRN Central Research Institute'... Accelerates Technology Development with Gunsan National University Industry-Academic Cooperation Foundation

[Asia Economy Reporter Jang Hyowon] Wellbiotech has opened the ‘Wellbiotech PDRN Central Research Institute’ in Gunsan-si, Jeollabuk-do, and will officially begin research and development for regenerative medicine and cosmetic businesses utilizing PDRN.

On the 23rd, Wellbiotech held a commemorative plaque ceremony for the establishment of the ‘Wellbiotech PDRN Central Research Institute’ and announced the signing of a ‘Joint Research Agreement on PDRN Extraction Technology’ with the Industry-Academic Cooperation Foundation of Gunsan University.

The plaque ceremony was attended by key researchers and officials including Koo Sehyun, CEO of Wellbiotech, and Han Hyunseop, professor of Marine Life Sciences at Gunsan University. Through this agreement, Wellbiotech and the Gunsan University Industry-Academic Cooperation Foundation agreed to rapidly proceed with functional evaluation of PDRN and development of mass extraction technology centered on the ‘Wellbiotech PDRN Central Research Institute.’

Professor Han Hyunseop of the Marine Life Sciences Department at Gunsan University, a leading domestic authority in the related field who previously served as director of the National Institute of Fisheries Science, will oversee the joint research and development of PDRN extraction technology under this agreement.

A Wellbiotech official stated, “We will develop bio-applied products and goods utilizing PDRN in various fields such as regenerative medicine, cosmetics, and health functional foods,” adding, “With excellent researchers and partner companies gathered and business progressing rapidly, we expect the profit base through the new PDRN business next year to be established quickly.”

Meanwhile, in October, Wellbiotech signed an industry-academic cooperation agreement with the College of Marine Sciences at Gunsan University for product development and commercialization using PDRN and PN components. They are conducting extensive collaboration for product development and commercialization including raw material supply, securing production facilities, development of extraction technology, joint project discovery, personnel exchange, and business promotion.

PDRN is a cell regeneration substance extracted from the reproductive cells of salmon. It is known to have excellent effects on cell growth, recovery of damaged tissues, and vascular regeneration. Due to its anti-inflammatory, wound healing, and tissue repair effects, it is used in pharmaceuticals such as joint injections and is being developed into cosmetics, medical devices (fillers), and health functional foods for regenerating damaged skin caused by aging, ultraviolet rays, acne, and scars.
