Samsung Electronics to Hold Online Global Strategy Meeting on 21-22

[Asia Economy Reporter Jeong Hyunjin] Samsung Electronics will hold its annual global strategy meeting over two days, from the 21st to the 22nd. Considering the COVID-19 situation, the meeting will be held online again this year, following last year’s format.

According to business circles on the 20th, Samsung Electronics will conduct the global strategy meeting online on the 21st and 22nd. The Device Solutions (DS) division, responsible for semiconductors, will hold its meeting on the 21st, while the DX division, which combines TV, home appliances, and mobile (MX), will meet on the 22nd.

Samsung Electronics’ global strategy meeting is a regular meeting hosted by each business division head and has traditionally been held around mid-December every year. This year, there was even speculation that the meeting might be canceled due to the worsening COVID-19 situation and management uncertainties, but it was ultimately decided to proceed online. Last year, the meeting was also held online due to COVID-19.

Overseas heads of subsidiaries will not enter the country separately. This time, Vice Chairman Han Jong-hee will lead the meeting for the DX division, and President Kyung Kye-hyun will lead the meeting for the DS division.

During this meeting, discussions are expected on ways to create synergy among the various business units within the DX division, which is being integrated and launched for the first time in over a decade. For the DS division, discussions are anticipated on strengthening system semiconductor competitiveness based on the Pyeongtaek Campus Semiconductor Plant 4 and the establishment of the second foundry (semiconductor contract manufacturing) plant in the United States.
