Ban Ki-moon and Kim Bit-nae-ri Scholars Visit Youth... Hoam Foundation 'Online Lecture'

[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Hye-young] The Hoam Foundation announced on the 20th that it will hold an online youth lecture series for teenagers over three days from the 28th to the 30th of this month via Zoom and YouTube.

The Hoam Foundation has invited distinguished figures, including Samsung Hoam Prize laureates, to provide various lectures for future generations. Considering the COVID-19 situation, the event has been held online since this year, and the summer lecture series in August was also conducted in an ontact format.

This winter’s event will feature nine speakers, including former UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, RNA field scholar and Samsung Hoam Prize laureate Professor Kim Bit-nae-ri, a leading Korean sociologist Professor Park Gil-sung from Korea University, and digital world expert Jang Dong-seon, CEO of the Curious Brain Research Institute.

On the first day, the 28th, lectures under the theme "Humans and the Universe" will be held. These include "The Era of the Solar System is Coming" by Lee Myung-hyun, CEO of Science Bookstore Galda, "The Future of Humanity Changed by RNA" by Professor Kim Bit-nae-ri of Seoul National University, and "Neuroscience: The Science of Understanding Myself and Reality" by Professor Kim Dae-sik of KAIST, each lasting 50 minutes.

On the second day, the 29th, under the theme "The World and Me," lectures will continue with writer Kim Soo-young’s "Challenge the Crazy (ME-親) Dream," Professor Park Gil-sung’s "Ways of Seeing the World," and former Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon’s "Global Leadership."

On the final day, the 30th, under the theme "Technology and the Future," lectures will be delivered by Jang Dong-seon, CEO of the Curious Brain Research Institute, with "A Cybernetic View on the Brain," Choi Young-seok, CEO of ChargeIn, with "Which Electric Car is Good?", and Jo Kwang-rae, senior researcher at the Korea Aerospace Research Institute, with "The Future Lies in Expanding Space Territories," reaching out to youth.

The lectures can be watched live by anyone through the Hoam Foundation’s YouTube channel, and schools and teenagers who pre-register by the 27th of this month via the Eventus website can participate directly via Zoom. The Hoam Foundation plans to make the videos available on YouTube even after the lectures end and will also produce and distribute booklets.

Meanwhile, Samsung has been holding the Samsung Hoam Prize Youth Lecture Series annually since the early 2000s to share the knowledge and experience of the older generation with future generations. It is the only major domestic and international award program that conducts lectures specifically for youth. Previously, it was held as a "visiting lecture series," but due to the spread of COVID-19, it has been held online since this summer. With the online format removing spatial and temporal limitations, attendance increased from an average of 2,350 offline participants to 11,000.

The Hoam Foundation stated, "This lecture series is expected to be utilized as a transitional education program at many middle and high schools nationwide, coinciding with the end of the semester before the winter vacation."
