[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Soyoung] The court sentenced public service worker A for repeatedly illegally filming naked men at a bathhouse.
On the 19th, the Criminal Division 2 of the Suncheon Branch of Gwangju District Court (Presiding Judge Jang Yunmi) sentenced A (23) to 1 year and 4 months in prison for violating the Act on Special Cases Concerning the Punishment, etc. of Sexual Crimes (filming using a camera, etc.) and assault.
Along with this, A was ordered to complete a 40-hour sexual violence treatment program and was banned from employment at child and youth-related institutions and welfare facilities for the disabled for 3 years each.
On April 18th at around 7:15 PM, A filmed a video of victim B’s naked back in the men's changing room of a bathhouse in Yeosu, Jeollanam-do. When A’s filming was discovered, he attempted to flee the scene and struggled with B. A is also accused of assaulting B by forcefully pushing B’s chest once during this incident.
According to police investigation, A illegally filmed a total of 37 times, including videos, at this location over 1 year and 4 months from December 18, 2019, to April of this year.
The court stated, "The act of filming another person's body is of a bad nature, and considering the possibility of the footage being distributed, the social harm and risk are very significant."
However, the court explained the sentencing reasoning by considering "the defendant’s full admission and remorse, ongoing treatment for mental illness, and no prior criminal record."
