[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Seohyun] A man in his 40s was arrested by the police for violating a court-issued restraining order and assaulting his ex-wife because she was seeing another man.

On the 19th, the Gyeyang Police Station in Incheon arrested A, a man in his 40s and the ex-husband, on charges including injury and violation of the Special Act on the Punishment of Domestic Violence Crimes.

Judge Oh Seungjun, the duty judge in charge of warrants at the Incheon District Court, conducted a pre-arrest suspect interrogation (warrant review) that day and issued an arrest warrant for A, citing concerns over evidence tampering and flight risk.

A is accused of forcibly opening the door of an office in Gyeyang-gu, Incheon, where his divorced ex-wife B was working around 6 p.m. on the 17th, and repeatedly hitting B with his fists and feet, causing injuries. Although he brought a weapon to the scene, he did not use it.

It was also found that A destroyed B’s mobile phone to prevent her from notifying the police. B, who sustained injuries to her face and other areas, used a smartwatch provided for personal protection after requesting police protection to call 112, and A was arrested on the spot by the responding police as a suspect caught in the act.

Earlier, on the 2nd, A had also visited B, taken her into his car, and driven around. Following a report from B’s acquaintance, the police investigated the matter.

At that time, the police did not apply charges of confinement against A based on B’s statement that she voluntarily got into the car and was not confined, but requested temporary measures from the prosecution. The court accepted this and issued temporary orders prohibiting A from approaching B’s residence, workplace, and children.

During the police investigation, A stated that he committed the crime because he was angry that B was seeing another man.
