[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Sancheong-gun, Gyeongnam is enhancing mobility convenience for long-term care recipients.

On the 17th, according to Sancheong-gun, a pilot project for long-term care mobility support service will be implemented, where a care worker accompanies the special transportation (call taxi for the transportation disadvantaged) during operation to improve mobility convenience for elderly and other long-term care recipients.

Sancheong-gun explained that through this pilot mobility support service, special transportation (call taxi for the transportation disadvantaged) will be provided to long-term care recipients who had difficulty visiting hospitals or going out alone, and by having a care worker accompany them, safer mobility convenience will be offered.

Accordingly, on the 14th, Sancheong-gun signed a business agreement with the National Health Insurance Service, agreeing that Sancheong-gun will handle support for special transportation (call taxi for the transportation disadvantaged) and registration/management of eligible users, while the National Health Insurance Service will be responsible for compensation support for care workers’ accompaniment service from visiting care centers.

The project targets long-term care grade 1 to 5 home care recipients with walking disabilities. They must be registered as eligible users for special transportation (call taxi for the transportation disadvantaged) through screening, and the usage fee is borne by the recipient (approximately 1.5 times the bus fare).

Those wishing to use the special transportation (call taxi for the transportation disadvantaged) should submit an application form along with proof documents such as a disability certificate and medical diagnosis to the county office or town/village office, and once registered as eligible users, they can call the consultation center anytime to make reservations and receive guidance.

The county’s Economic Transportation Division head said, “We will lead the realization of social value by alleviating the burden on families accompanying long-term care recipients and promoting the project linked with public resources for special transportation.”

Meanwhile, Sancheong-gun has gradually expanded the operation since starting with one call taxi for the transportation disadvantaged in 2012.
