A Complex Cultural Center Established in Jido-eup through the Supply of Living SOC
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Seo Young-seo] Sinan-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Park Woo-ryang) secured a total project cost of 6 billion KRW by applying for the ‘2021 Urban Regeneration Recognition Project’ hosted by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport to provide food services through the supply of living SOC and to establish a resident community base.
According to the county on the 17th, since 2019, various resident councils from all walks of life have been formed to successfully promote the urban regeneration project. The administration and residents worked together through education, advanced site visits, and other activities to prepare the project plan, which was finally selected.
Until now, Jido-eup has been the only urban area in Sinan-gun with poor basic infrastructure facilities. However, recently, with the opening of the Jido~Imja Bridge and the transportation hub connecting Imjado, the Tulip Island, Eldorado Resort in Jeungdo-myeon, and Songdo seafood wholesale market, about 9,000 local residents and 300,000 annual visitors pass through the area.
The newly selected ‘Four Seasons Multi-Cultural Platform’ project plans to build a new three-story building that will utilize the region’s abundant agricultural and marine products to offer restaurants, cafes, terraces, and other food tourism content as well as healing spaces. It will also be developed as a community activation space to provide welfare services such as cultural activities, care, and educational facilities for marginalized groups and multicultural families.
Governor Park Woo-ryang stated, “By expanding social participation opportunities for marginalized groups in rural areas and foreign multicultural families and increasing the insufficient living SOC, we expect sustainable regional development through the realization of resident welfare, income generation, and revitalization of the central commercial district of Jido-eup.”
