[Asia Economy Reporter Yoon Seul-gi] A man in his 40s who was sentenced to probation for domestic violence stabbed his wife to death with a weapon 38 days later and confessed to his crime in court.
On the 16th, the Criminal Division 2 of Jeju District Court (Chief Judge Jang Chan-su) held the first trial for Mr. A (44), who was indicted on charges of murder.
According to the prosecution's charges, Mr. A is accused of stabbing his wife, Ms. B (37), with a weapon at a villa in Jeju city around 5 p.m. last month on the 4th, resulting in her death.
In court that day, when the judge asked if he admitted to the charges, Mr. A briefly replied, "I admit." Then, after reviewing a statement submitted in advance by Mr. A's defense attorney, the judge asked Mr. A, "Do you still have trouble sleeping these days?" and "Do you see the victim in your dreams every night?" to which Mr. A answered, "Yes."
Previously, it was reported that Mr. A got into an argument with Ms. B over his late return home, became enraged, and threatened her with a weapon. Feeling threatened, Ms. B tried to escape while begging for her life, but Mr. A chased her and committed the crime. It was confirmed that Ms. B died on the spot after being stabbed in a vital area.
Since Mr. A admitted to all charges, the court plans to complete the evidence examination and proceed with the final trial at the next hearing.
