[Asia Economy Reporter Yuri Kim] Shinsegae Property announced on the 17th that it has created 'Byeolmadang-gil,' an indoor urban walking space where people can comfortably walk regardless of the season or weather, at Starfield COEX Mall.
The newly introduced Byeolmadang-gil is the first of its kind among domestic retailers and boasts the longest indoor walking track. It is a 1.6 km round-trip walking track that extends along Starfield COEX Mall from the Samsung Station COEX Mall entrance to Exit 7 of Bongeunsa Station. This length allows an average adult to take about 2,500 steps, which takes approximately 20 minutes to walk without stopping.
Walking along Byeolmadang-gil, visitors can enjoy the Byeolmadang Library, where they can read, attend performances, and lectures, and easily access over 300 brands at Starfield COEX Mall. Various art exhibitions and cultural entertainment facilities are also freely available.
The company expects Byeolmadang-gil to become a convenient walking course for nearby residents, a light exercise route for office workers during commuting and lunch breaks, and a daily walking experience zone for visitors to enjoy shopping, dining, leisure, and cultural experiences.
At the start and end of the Byeolmadang-gil track, warm encouragement messages from poet Nataejoo and nun Lee Haein are displayed, and phrases comforting office workers' hearts are inscribed throughout the track, providing vitality just by walking. An activity zone is set up in the middle of the track for simple stretching and rest. The track is made of elastic rubber material used in official athletic tracks to enhance cushioning. Materials certified with the 'GreenGuard Gold' eco-friendly certification were used to ensure air quality safety.
Youngrok Lim, CEO of Shinsegae Property, said, "Byeolmadang-gil, following the Byeolmadang Library, is a space where busy modern people can recharge their daily energy in the city without setting aside separate time," adding, "We hope everyone uses their spare time at Byeolmadang-gil to enjoy vitality, healing, and small moments of relaxation in their own style."
