'2021 Intelligence Informatization Officers Council' Held
Approximately 48% Utilization of Intelligent Information Technologies such as AI and Data
[Asia Economy Reporter Eunmo Koo] Next year's national informatization budget is expected to increase by 15% compared to this year, reaching approximately 11.5 trillion KRW.
The Ministry of Science and ICT (MSIT) announced on the 14th that it held the '2021 Intelligent Informatization Officer Council' at the Korea Intelligent Information Society Agency (NIA) and the Government Sejong Complex, where this was discussed.
Next year's national informatization projects will focus on accelerating digital innovation by continuously expanding investment in intelligent information technology in line with the promotion of the Digital New Deal and the advancement of intelligent informatization. According to the analysis of the 2022 National Informatization Implementation Plan (draft) established by 57 central administrative agencies and 245 local governments, the scale of national informatization investment in 2022 is expected to be about 11.5395 trillion KRW, a 15.1% (1.514 trillion KRW) increase from the previous year's budget of approximately 10.0255 trillion KRW.
According to the '6th National Informatization Basic Plan,' the proportion of investment in intelligent information technology within the 2022 national informatization budget will also expand to 47.5% (about 5.4813 trillion KRW). Investment in artificial intelligence (AI) among intelligent information technologies is expected to reach about 1.1055 trillion KRW, approximately 9.6% of the total budget, increasing by 25.8% (227 billion KRW) compared to the previous year, with AI utilization expected to expand across various fields such as medical imaging and infectious diseases.
Additionally, the budget related to data is about 2 trillion KRW, an increase of approximately 17.8% (302.9 billion KRW) from the previous year. It is expected that the construction, opening, and utilization of various types of data such as AI data (about 698.9 billion KRW), big data (547.2 billion KRW), and public data (422.4 billion KRW) will be activated. The cloud-related budget is about 1.451 trillion KRW, an increase of about 34.3% (370.9 billion KRW) compared to the previous year, and the Internet of Things (IoT) related budget is about 1.081 trillion KRW, expected to increase by 4.9% (50.7 billion KRW) from this year.
Park Yoon-gyu, Director of the Information and Communication Policy Office at MSIT, stated, “To realize the world's most advanced intelligent information society through the digital transformation, active participation and continuous cooperation of informatization officers from central ministries and local governments are necessary,” adding, “The government will spare no policy efforts to ensure that digital innovation spreads across all economic and social sectors when establishing the 7th Comprehensive Plan for the Intelligent Information Society (2023?2025) next year.”
