[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Jong-hwa] Comprehensive paper company Kkaekkeutan Nara announced on the 14th that it has obtained the 'GR (Good Recycled) Certification' awarded to excellent recycled products.

The GR (Good Recycled) Certification is a government certification given to high-quality and eco-friendly recycled products. It is a system where the government certifies recycled products with excellent quality through the development of resource recycling green technology and aims to expand their demand.

The certification target is 100% recycled pulp tissue products produced by Kkaekkeutan Nara, with 'Kkaekkeutan Nara Eco Basic' being representative. Products such as 'SC Manila' and 'Ivory' tissue types made using 98% recycled materials are also subject to certification and are used as packaging materials for cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, daily necessities, and confectionery.

Kkaekkeutan Nara started from a resource circulation-based business producing paperboard by recycling old paper (waste paper) and has steadily expanded its business area to daily and hygiene products such as diapers, sanitary pads, wet wipes, masks, and hand sanitizers. Currently, under the sustainable goal of strengthening ESG management, it is producing wet wipe caps using recycled plastic for the first time in the industry and expanding the application of eco-friendly packaging materials through business partnerships with SPC Pack and SK General Chemical.

A Kkaekkeutan Nara official said, "Resource circulation is a characteristic of Kkaekkeutan Nara's business and something we do best," adding, "We will continue to create a healthy and clean world through research and development of environmentally friendly products."

Kkaekkeutan Nara recorded remarkable achievements such as a 16% reduction in air pollutant emissions and an 11% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions in 2020 compared to 2018, and a 79% increase in environmental facility investment over the past two years, receiving the Grand Prize in the Industry-Pollutant Reduction category at the '2021 Korea Environmental Awards.' In November, it was also recognized for contributing to solving environmental issues faced by the magazine industry by recycling 4,800 tons of waste magazines annually using technology that utilizes waste magazines as raw materials for whiteboard, receiving the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Commendation.
