Lee Hae-chan Officially Begins Public Activities, "People Power Party's Campaign Committee All Acting Like Kings"

"Don't Know Whether to Go to the Mountains or the Sea"

[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Ju-yeon] Former leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, Lee Hae-chan, has officially expressed for the first time his intention to act as a savior for presidential candidate Lee Jae-myung. However, he stated that he would play a supporting role indirectly rather than taking on an official position. Since Kim Jong-in, the general election campaign committee chairman of the People Power Party, took the stage, Lee has been regarded as a rival to counter him.

On the morning of the same day, Lee appeared on TBS radio and regarding the speculation about his involvement in the presidential election, he said, "Since there are only 90 days left until the election, it is time for all of our camp members to step forward fully." However, he drew a line by saying, "Rather than stepping forward, I will play an indirect supporting role by advising and pointing out, not leading anything at the forefront." When asked if he would appear regularly on broadcasts in the future, he answered "Yes," signaling the start of his public activities. Recently, former Roh Moo-hyun Foundation Chairman Yoo Si-min also resumed broadcasting appearances, and as the election approaches, key figures in the Democratic Party camp are sequentially stepping up to support candidate Lee.

Regarding the People Power Party’s election campaign committee, Lee harshly criticized, "Since everyone is acting like a king, I don’t know whether it will go to the mountains or the sea." About former Democratic Party members who joined the People Power Party’s campaign committee, he said, "They were not the mainstream figures. Since they are not those who inherit the legitimacy of the Democratic Party, there is no need to worry about them being a burden to the Democratic Party’s election campaign."

On the recent trend in approval ratings, he interpreted, "The situation is almost too close to call," and added, "From now until the end of January, the landscape will be shaped depending on how the candidates perform. The peak will be around the end of January."
