Police: "Former Director Yuhan Gi Presumed Dead Due to Fall"

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Hyungsoo] The preliminary autopsy result of Yuhan-gi, former head of the Development Business Division at Seongnam Urban Development Corporation, indicated "presumed death due to injuries from a fall." Former Director Yuhan was found dead after an arrest warrant was issued against him over the 'Daejang-dong development project preferential treatment allegations.'

According to the Ilsan Western Police Station in Gyeonggi Province on the 12th, the National Forensic Service (NFS) conducted an autopsy on the 11th to clarify the exact cause of death of former Director Yuhan and presumed that he died from a fall.

A police official stated, "We received a verbal opinion from the NFS autopsy results that it is presumed to be death caused by a fall. There were no external abnormalities, and the results of the detailed examination are expected to take more time."

Earlier, on the 10th, former Director Yuhan was found dead around 7:40 a.m. in a flower bed of an apartment complex in Ilsan-seo-gu, Goyang City, Gyeonggi Province. The report was made by a resident. The day before, the prosecution had requested an arrest warrant for former Director Yuhan on charges of bribery under the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Crimes. He, who is the president of Pocheon Urban Corporation, was confirmed to have handed his resignation letter to a secretary office staff member and left work the previous day.

The bereaved family expressed to the police that they did not want the contents of the suicide note to be disclosed. It is reported that the note contained content implying an extreme choice. However, the family stated during the investigation that "he was struggling due to the prosecution's investigation related to Daejang-dong."

After analyzing closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage and other evidence, the police presumed that Mr. Yuhan climbed an apartment about 200 meters from his home and died from a fall.

Former Director Yuhan is accused of receiving 200 million KRW in bribes under the pretext of lobbying the Han River Basin Environmental Office from Nam Wook, a lawyer and owner of Cheonhwa Dongin No. 4, and Jung Younghak, an accountant and owner of Cheonhwa Dongin No. 5, both affiliated with Hwacheon Daeyu, in August 2014. The court was scheduled to conduct a warrant hearing (pre-trial detention hearing) on the 14th.
