Average Daily Confirmed Cases of 5,568 in the Past Week
[Asia Economy Reporter Gong Byung-sun] As of 6 p.m. on the 9th, the second highest number of COVID-19 confirmed cases in history was recorded.
According to the quarantine authorities, Seoul city, and other local governments, a total of 4,058 COVID-19 confirmed cases were reported nationwide across 17 cities and provinces from 12 a.m. to 6 p.m. on that day.
This is the second highest number in the interim tally as of 6 p.m. The highest tally was 4,149 cases recorded at the same time on the 7th. The number of confirmed cases on this day increased by 427 compared to 3,631 cases at the same time the previous day, and by 1,338 compared to 2,720 cases at the same time a week earlier on the 2nd.
New confirmed cases were 2,686 (66.2%) in the metropolitan area and 1,372 (33.8%) in non-metropolitan areas. By city and province, the numbers were: Gyeonggi 1,292, Seoul 1,169, Busan 283, Incheon 225, Gyeongbuk 177, Gyeongnam 156, Daegu 153, Gangwon 128, Chungnam 120, Daejeon 81, Chungbuk 80, Jeonnam 59, Jeonbuk 54, Jeju 38, Gwangju 29, Ulsan 11, and Sejong 3, with confirmed cases reported in all 17 cities and provinces.
The number of new confirmed cases over the past week (3rd to 9th) were 4,994 → 5,352 → 5,126 → 4,324 → 4,954 → 7,174 → 7,102 respectively. The weekly daily average number of confirmed cases is 5,568. The average daily number of locally transmitted confirmed cases, excluding imported cases, is 5,542.
