Jangseong-gun Launches Full-Scale Establishment of 190 Billion KRW 'National Cardiovascular and Cerebrovascular Center'

[Jangseong=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Jo Hangyu] Jangseong-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Yoo Doo-seok) announced on the 9th at a National Assembly press conference that it will officially proceed with the establishment of the National Cardiovascular and Cerebrovascular Center, a project worth 190 billion KRW.

At the press conference held at the National Assembly Press Hall, Governor Yoo Doo-seok, National Assembly member Lee Gae-ho, along with county officials, council members, and heads of social organizations were present.

In the statement, the county said, “After 14 years of the hopes of Jangseong residents, last year we secured a budget of 4.37 billion KRW for the establishment of the National Cardiovascular and Cerebrovascular Center, but this year the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency disallowed the entire budget, putting us in a desperate crisis.”

It added, “In response, the residents of Jangseong formed a countermeasure committee and launched an all-out effort. The governor, council members, and representatives of social organizations even went as far as shaving their heads to show their resolute determination.”

Furthermore, “Thanks to the tearful efforts of 50,000 Jangseong residents and 3.4 million citizens of Gwangju and Jeonnam provinces, a dramatic achievement was made with the final reflection of 2.8 billion KRW in next year’s government budget for land acquisition costs for the National Cardiovascular and Cerebrovascular Center,” emphasizing, “A clear basis for the center’s establishment in Jangseong was also specified in the budget’s supplementary notes.”

It continued, “Originally a 49 billion KRW project, it is expected to be promoted on a scale expanded fourfold to 190 billion KRW, turning the crisis into an opportunity,” and expressed deep gratitude to the residents of Jangseong, Jeonnam Governor Kim Young-rok and the provincial council, Gwangju Mayor Lee Yong-seop and the city council, the Jeonnam Social Organizations Federation, and officials of the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency who supported the effort.

At the end of the statement, the county expressed its determination, saying, “With the heavy responsibility of playing a pivotal role in the development of medical care in the Republic of Korea, we will do our utmost together with the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency to promptly establish the National Cardiovascular and Cerebrovascular Center.”

National Assembly member Lee Gae-ho said, “I pay my respects to the residents of Jangseong who spared no effort to formalize and expedite the establishment of the National Cardiovascular and Cerebrovascular Center in Jangseong,” and urged, “I earnestly call for cooperation and support at the pan-governmental level so that it can become a bastion protecting the health of the people.”

Governor Yoo Doo-seok said, “With the heavy responsibility of playing a pivotal role in the development of medical care in the Republic of Korea, I will do my best to ensure the successful promotion of the establishment of the National Cardiovascular and Cerebrovascular Center.”
