[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunseok Yoo] Display equipment specialist company Youngwoo DSP announced on the 9th that it has signed an OLED inspection equipment supply contract worth 20.6 billion KRW with Samsung Display Vietnam Co., Ltd. The contract period is until December 30 of next year.
The ‘OLED inspection equipment’ supplied by Youngwoo DSP this time is equipment that determines defects in cells, modules, and panels that make up OLEDs. It features the application of vision algorithms and artificial intelligence (AI) inspection technology, enabling automation of the inspection process and improvement in defect detection quality.
A Youngwoo DSP official said, "With the trend of increased new investments by domestic and foreign companies, demand for our display inspection equipment is expected to continue to grow," adding, "We will gradually expand our business scope to include OLED, QNED, QD OLED, Micro LED, and actively target related markets."
Meanwhile, Youngwoo DSP is also expected to stand out in the semiconductor inspection equipment field. The company was selected as a detailed institution for the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy’s project on ‘Development of performance evaluation technology for ultraviolet lens modules for semiconductor defect inspection equipment below 10 nanometers.’ Additionally, it was selected as the lead research and development institution for the project ‘Development of core manufacturing technology for ultra-fine RGB stacked Micro LED light sources and pixels for displays,’ actively targeting the Micro LED market as well.
Recently, major domestic companies are preparing to target the metaverse market centered on self-emissive displays including OLED. Especially as immersion is important in virtual worlds, interest in OLED, which has advantages such as response speed, high resolution, and lightweight, is increasing. Demand for Youngwoo DSP’s inspection equipment, which enhances product completeness, is also expected to expand.
Furthermore, Youngwoo DSP is also pursuing new businesses to secure new growth engines such as robotics, semiconductor inspection equipment, and healthcare. The company signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) related to robotics with SK Telecom and others last June.
