Gyeonggi-do Designates 9 Cultural Properties Including 'Yeong·Jeongjo Kim Jong-su's Calligraphy Album'

[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Gyeonggi Province has designated nine items, including the 'Yeongjo and Jeongjo's Calligraphy Album by Kim Jong-su,' as cultural assets of Gyeonggi Province.

Gyeonggi Province recently held a meeting of the Gyeonggi Cultural Heritage Committee and announced on the 9th that it designated as cultural assets of Gyeonggi Province the 'Yeongjo and Jeongjo's Calligraphy Album by Kim Jong-su,' which contains the handwritten calligraphy of Yeongjo and Jeongjo from the Joseon Dynasty, as well as ▲ Anseong Cheongryongsa Amitabha Assembly Painting ▲ Anseong Cheongryongsa Jizangsiwang Painting ▲ Anseong Cheongryongsa Sakyamuni Buddha Triad Painting ▲ Seongnam 'Beomnyunsa' Myung Sinjungdo and Burial Objects ▲ Seongnam 'Beomnyunsa' Myung Gamrodo ▲ Uijeongbu Seongbulsa Sinjungdo ▲ Pyeongtaek Dongnyeongsa Seonwonjejeonjib Library ▲ Siheung Jindeoksa Stone Seated Buddha Statue.

The 'Yeongjo and Jeongjo's Calligraphy Album by Kim Jong-su,' held at Suwon Museum, is an album mounted with silk or thick paper containing royal works (eojje) and calligraphy (eopil) personally written by Kim Jong-su, who served as Chief State Councillor in the late Joseon period. These were bestowed during King Yeongjo's reign and during Crown Prince Jeongjo's and King Jeongjo's reigns. The provenance and timing of the bestowal are clearly documented, and it preserves the original handwriting of Yeongjo and Jeongjo, making it highly valuable as a cultural asset.

Lee Hee-wan, Director of the Cultural Heritage Division of the province, said, "The rare calligraphy album containing the handwritten works of Yeongjo and Jeongjo, along with Buddhist cultural assets such as Buddhist paintings and scriptures scattered throughout the province, are precious cultural heritages that demonstrate the diverse cultural traditions held by Gyeonggi Province. We will strive to widely promote their value and share them with the residents."
