Village Sewerage Maintenance Project... Expected Improvement in Residents' Living Environment
[Haenam=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Hyun] Haenam-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Myeong Hyun-gwan) has secured a project budget of 102.7 billion KRW, including 62.7 billion KRW in national funds, for rural village sewage system maintenance and other projects next year, accelerating project implementation.
According to the county on the 8th, plans are underway to carry out related projects at 17 locations, including the expansion of the Haenam-eup public sewage treatment plant, rural village sewage system maintenance projects, and sewage pipeline maintenance projects next year.
Improving living inconveniences and residential environments through the expansion of clean sewage treatment facilities is a key focus to establish a foundation for regional economic revitalization, a pledge of the 7th local government administration. As rural village sewage system maintenance projects gain momentum, a green light is being given to the expansion of clean sewage treatment facilities.
This large-scale project budget acquisition is the result of continuous visits by Governor Myeong Hyun-gwan and related officials to ministries such as the Ministry of Environment and the Ministry of Strategy and Finance since early this year, advocating the necessity of project implementation and national funding support. Before the opening of this regular National Assembly session, they also visited related lawmakers one by one, explaining the poor sewage coverage rate and feasibility in rural areas, leading to active efforts to secure national funds.
For 13 ongoing projects, the county will thoroughly promote project implementation to complete them within the planned deadlines. For newly selected project districts, such as the sewage pipeline maintenance projects in Hwawon Hwabong and Munnae Nandae, and the rural village sewage system maintenance projects in Songji Donghyeon and Munnae Yerak, design services will commence next year to proceed quickly.
To this end, 17 billion KRW has been reflected in the next year's main budget, and once the budget is confirmed, the projects will be ordered early to minimize farming inconveniences caused by project implementation.
The rural village sewage system maintenance project involves upgrading the existing combined sewer pipes in villages to separate sewer pipes that discharge domestic sewage and stormwater separately, resolving residential and living inconveniences caused by odor generation and pollution of public water bodies within the villages.
In September, the county also completed a change service for the Haenam-gun Sewage Maintenance Basic Plan, which includes expanding sewage treatment areas to efficiently respond to domestic sewage discharged from each household and commercial establishment, so more villages and residents are expected to benefit from the sewage system maintenance projects.
Governor Myeong Hyun-gwan stated, “We will do our best to complete the rural village sewage and sewage pipeline maintenance projects within the planned period to prevent any inconvenience to residents caused by project delays,” and added, “We will also make every effort to secure national funds to actively promote underdeveloped local projects such as the sewage coverage rate, which is among the lowest nationwide.”
