[Imsil=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Park Nosik] Imsil County, Jeonbuk (Governor Sim Min) announced on the 8th that it was selected as an excellent institution by ranking 2nd nationwide in the ‘2021 Public Transportation Policy Evaluation’ conducted by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (hereinafter referred to as MOLIT).
Accordingly, the county received the MOLIT Minister’s institutional commendation and achieved nationwide recognition for safety and convenience in public transportation policies.
In particular, this is the first time since the evaluation began in 2007 that the county was selected as an excellent institution, setting a remarkable record as the second highest rated nationwide.
The public transportation policy evaluation is conducted every two years targeting local governments nationwide, assessing overall transportation administration.
This evaluation was carried out by dividing 161 local governments into five groups (A~E) based on population size and the presence or absence of urban rail transit, aiming to promote the development and improvement of public transportation.
Based on 19 evaluation indicators and 51 evaluation items covering public transportation facilities and services, administration and policy support, a fair and rigorous evaluation was conducted from July to last month through document review, on-site inspection, and satisfaction surveys.
The county belongs to Group E, which includes the largest number of 77 county-level local governments, and ranks second highest nationwide based on total score.
Behind this high evaluation, various resident-tailored policies and diverse transportation welfare policies considerate of transportation-vulnerable groups attracted attention.
Despite the geographically and regionally disadvantaged conditions of the eastern mountainous area of Jeonbuk, the county has been improving public transportation administrative services and actively supporting policies such as ▲establishing transportation infrastructure and providing services responding to changing environments ▲enhancing transportation convenience for vulnerable and underserved areas ▲demand-centered customized public transportation policies.
The county does not rest on this year’s achievements but plans to carefully analyze the evaluation results and further develop excellent policies and highly scored items.
The award ceremony will be held on the 15th at the Royal Hotel Seoul located in Jung-gu, Seoul, with about 100 attendees including MOLIT, Korea Transportation Safety Authority, and excellent institutions.
Governor Sim Min said, “We will always discover transportation policies from the residents’ perspective and provide diverse and systematic transportation services to ensure that no area is neglected in public transportation,” adding, “We will establish ourselves as a local government representing advanced transportation administration nationwide.”
