[Yeongam＝Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Seo Young-seo] Yeongam-gun, Jeollanam-do, is drawing attention by holding an exhibition of Daebonggam processed products targeting urban consumers in the Seoul metropolitan area.
According to the county on the 8th, this exhibition was held to promote the excellence of Yeongam Daebonggam and to develop sales channels for producing farms.
The county held a promotional event for three days from the 2nd to the 4th at the Yangjae Nonghyup Hanaro Mart in Seoul, and thanks to high recognition and response from consumers, it achieved sales of 680 boxes of Daebonggam and Hongsi based on 5 kg and 250 packs of dried persimmons based on 500 g.
Yeongam is the largest Daebonggam production area in the country, cultivating 890 hectares with 900 farms and producing about 12,000 tons annually. Compared to other cultivation areas, it has a higher average annual temperature, abundant sunlight, and a large temperature difference between night and day in autumn, resulting in high sugar content and stickiness. It is recognized nationwide for its quality and is designated as Geographical Indication No. 17 by the Korea Forest Service.
A county official said, “Due to abnormal low temperatures in April and heavy rains from July to August, the harvest volume decreased by about 60% compared to the average year, but the fresh fruit distribution price is stably maintained at around 30,000 KRW per 10 kg. We hope this will help the management of Daebonggam cultivating farms even a little.”
